The Deus Ex games have always had this strange way of doing a great job of mirroring modern times and predict parts of our own very real future. One of the examples I can give you is back when the original Deus Ex game was released there was an in-lore, past event that shaped the in game world. The U.S. suffered a terrorist attack on their own soil. The Statue of Liberty was severely damaged and as a result (along with other terrorist attacks the world over) UNATCO was formed. This ended up mirroring the events of 9/11 and the forming of Homeland Security. Keep in mind the first Deus Ex game came out in 2000, before 9/11.
A better example would be the advent of affordable artificial limbs becoming more prevalent and strides in development towards human-machine connectivity. Personally I'm all for this.
It is going to be interesting to see how the Deus Ex team addresses the scenario of how humanity could address numerous humans having been basically hacked and driven to cause world wide violence. That and I want to see if I can finally do a full play through without killing anyone... for once.
